Looks like this is a known issue, rakshasa/rtorrent#313.

And downloading the .torrent, removing it and then re-adding it fixes it.
They got into this state when I deleted files from these specific torrents. I was trying to remove video files from unpacked torrents that weren't needed, but forgot to exclude samples.

Thanks for the details in the issue fryfrog, it's a pity is not been fixed yet but at least there is a way around it I guess
