Formatting an editable number field? about best_in_place HOT 2 CLOSED

Hi @ncri. Actually I've just been working on implementing this new feature in this branch. It will be merged tomorrow as it only needs some REAMDE additions.

This will allow you to decide in which way a certain attribute has to be displayed by doing something like:

= best_in_place @account, :balance, :display_as => :formatted_balance

Then best in place will call @account.formatted_balance.to_s and use that to show the price instead of the standard @account.balance.to_s. Now you have total flexibility to return what you want to be displayed.

If you want to use number_to_currency then you'll have to do it from your model, it can be done but it's a little tricky. You can search about how to use view helpers from models in general, but that's outside of this gem scope.

Thanks, sounds good! Well, for now I worked around it by using a virtual attribute where I call number to currency in the getter. It's actually not tricky, you just have to include include ActionView::Helpers::NumberHelper into the model.
