I have noticed the same issue, anybody know if in 1.6.1 delay changed in any way?
Edit: I just realized that the queue doesn't seem to work at all, queued animations don't execute, just the last animation in the queue...
I just checked and this problem seems to be related to the animate-enhanced, it's the same problem with older versions of jquery...

I think the fix for 1.6. is responsible for that broken behaviour (queue and delay not working). Would be nice to see this fixed, had no luck trying myself. Reverting the commit for 1.6. seems to repair the queue but messes some other features.

I tried different versions of jAE with different versions of jQ. It looks like the delay() function doesn't work at all in either combination of the files. This is strange because on barnetts website http://playground.benbarnett.net/jquery-animate-enhanced/ it says that the delay function should work.
Removing the jAE brings the delay() back to life, but then you miss out on the awesome webkit stuff...
Anyone an idea how or with which versions the delay() function works or when this functionality will be resolved?

I didn't find a way to fix this, but I worked around the problem by using this neat plugin: doTimeout ( http://benalman.com/projects/jquery-dotimeout-plugin/ ). Also includes the possibility to cancel delays, pretty cool!
