I decided to support only Python 3.2+ mainly for the following two reasons:

  • less complex to support only either Python 3 or Python 2, and I wanted to support the latest so I won't need to do a transition soon
  • I wanted to make use of some of the features that are present only in Python 3

One of the problems is the one you pointed out:

In [1]: def function(*args, option=None, **kwargs):
   ...:     pass
  File "<ipython-input-1-31b60b740433>", line 1
    def function(*args, option=None, **kwargs):
                             ^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

This syntax is valid in Python 3.2+ and I wanted to use that. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to make the code Python 2 compatible, but I'm not planning to support Python 2, sorry.
