@OrkoHunter and I are keen to give a demo of the new node.js-based templating solution added under backstage/backstage#5919!

Would love to present where we're at with the Composable HomePage that was suggested in backstage/backstage#5416!

Splunk (Pallavi Samanu, Heather Lee @heatheralee) would love to present our Bravo badge feature to build a strong sense of appreciation and how to amplify our culture using Backstage. This is a part of a larger effort to build a daily habit of using Backstage. We would love to contribute our work upstream. This was briefly shared in Discord #meetup on July 2, 2021 9:42AM.

I've read through the blog post around Golden Pathways https://engineering.atspotify.com/2020/08/17/how-we-use-golden-paths-to-solve-fragmentation-in-our-software-ecosystem/ and this is something our organization is currently looking to develop internally (golden pathways).

I'd be interested in hearing more about how they live in Backstage, is it a plugin that could potentially be open sourced or part of another plugin? What does a golden pathway in Backstage look like (is it essentially a codelab)? and how do users add new golden pathways? these are some questions I have but just curious in general about them and how they integrate with Backstage

One question I have around the templating / scaffolder and it's roadmap is if it would be a good time to discuss is: workflows for updating templates as well as creating.

For instance, in our use-case building templates from scratch is useful, but having some way to have templates with a clear update path would be potentially an even bigger value-add for us (given that it's more common we're updating a project inline with the latest internal best practices in our templates than making them from scratch).

For context, our templates comprise of various modules which have their own upgrade flows (release, release notes etc) but I'd be curious to know if anyone has solved the problem on a more overall level 🙏

This is what Projen is trying to solve. It's basically a way to define project template/boilerplate as code. I'm not sure how well that could play with Backstage's scaffolder, but it might be worth looking into.

@loujaybee You raise a valid point! I know @mtlewis has wondered whether it makes sense to bundle Software Templates as npm packages, where they are versioned and have release notes and such. Definitely ties into the point you're raising.
