I agree it would be nice to have, but it's hard for the same reason that gc requires the statement in the first place. i.e. How do you know that the panic statement really is unreachable, rather than something you may expect?

I would consider having a configurable filter for ignoring statements, e.g. those which specifically match 'panic("unreachable")', which is idiomatic.

Of course, but if you care about the percentages something still needs to be done. I'll leave this open and mull it over. Thanks for raising the issue.

rsc is looking into adding code reachability analysis in gc, so this will fixed upstream. If that defect (Issue 65) gets left unfixed, then this can be revisited.
