Hey Axel, thanks for the feedback! We've got some longer term plans to limit which dependencies get pulled in for the main SDK code, but in the meantime, upgrading Jackson to the latest release version is a great idea.

@fulghum Are you interested in any pull requests? By the way I have not seen any test code in this repo. Am I missing something?

Hey @cemo, we always welcome pull requests. Upgrading Jackson should be a really small change, and it'll also require some extra work on our part with our internal build setup, but I think we can get to it soon for you guys.
regarding test code... we do have lots of test code for the SDK (specifically, lots of integration tests that test actual communication with the various services, parsing, etc), but right now it's not uploaded to GitHub. I'll take this as another +1 for getting that test code cleaned up and uploaded to the repo.

It might also be worth considering building a version of the aws-sdk jar with shaded dependencies (maven-shade-plugin). Although uber-jars have their drawbacks, it could offer a workaround for projects with dependency clashes (like this issue or #61).
