Here is a good example where a select option could be useful: gender.

Indeed, AWS cognito has some default field that can be easily used in Amplify Authenticator components. The "gender" field is typically something that, most of the time, is rendered as a radio button or a select option.

You may have more than 2 où 3 choices for gender. But in the end, you will only have a limited set of options. Using an input text field makes no sense. But it seems the formFields props from the AmplifySignUp component can only render text input.

This is absolutely something that should be documented & supported. Cognito supports gender and several other attributes.
