It's possible to save the token in the scope. Even though you can't inject $rootScope to the config function, you can inject it to the tokenGetter function since it's used with the $injector.

Something like:

.config(function(...) {
  jwtInterceptorProvider.tokenGetter = function($rootScope) {
      return $rootScope.jwt;
  }
});
