Thanks for these observations. Maybe it would be nice to have some "Same for all documents" checkbox to force display options like background grid size, color1, color2, grid color, etc.

About:

I cannot find any method for this basic request:

set the background colors
have them stick -- for all time, no matter what -- regardless of the current file loaded, or opening an old file, or making a new file.
There is a way:

  1. Set the Background as desired within: Edit > Preferences > Background > Background for New Documents (this will set the default background settings).
  2. Press Apply.
  3. Go to Edit > Preferences > General > Locate Configuration File go to the files folder and delete all the files inside this folder. (each file saves the display settings of image files opened in the past, so deleting all files will reset all visual settings on old documents)

What do you think @dacap?

Just to let you know @JDoucette, the actual problem with Aseprite preferences for files is that they are saved inside the preferences folder with a filename that is related to the original path/filename of the sprite, so if you move/rename a folder where the sprite is located (or rename the png file), you lost the its preferences.

I remember talking about this in the past with other users. A possible "reset background for all files" button or probably a new option in the combobox (the following is a mockup):

The only problem is that this requires opening all .ini files in %AppData%\Aseprite\files and resetting the option (not a big deal, should be quite straightforward).
