Just to clarify, Aseprite uses the following command to open folders on Linux:

setsid xdg-open "/full/path/to/the/folder"

You can try that command in the terminal/console to check if it works or fails and tell us the result.

If it works, probably there is a sandboxing issue with Steam that we have to test.

Seems like an issue about folder permissions. Under which user is running Steam and Aseprite? I'm just guessing, but I believe that if the user that is running Aseprite doesn't have permissions to open that folder, then that error pops up.

But, if you installed Steam with the same user (izaird) that you use to run Steam, then I'm not sure why this could be happening.

Are you using the native file dialog? Just asking for testing later today. If this is the case, could you try with the Aseprite built-in file dialog? Or vice versa.

Could you try the same command but specifying the folder (without the /aseprite.ini at the end)

What if you try with this folder?
/home/izaird/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Aseprite/data/extensions/aseprite-theme/./dark
