I've finished the port to OpenNMT-py! With this comes larger models, more training resources, and a script to extract Wiktionary training data. I just released new Chinese models which still struggle on single word translations but are much better than the old models. I'm planning to continue experimenting with lower resource languages and hopefully Japanese and Hindi will be finished soon.

Japanese also looks good, a better model and wiktionary data seems to have solved this.

Based on this discussion on the OpenNMT forum I think it's less likely that overtraining is the issue. It sounds like if anything 30,000 epochs may be low.
