using make jshint jscs works. However, the commit hook and grunt lint should work too.

if you're talking about running grunt lint from the main appium repo, it's not designed to work on any of the submodules. each submodule has its own way of running lint. and even if you run it in the appium-adb dir, it's still finding the (totally unrelated) Gruntfile for the main appium repo since that's the tree you're in.

the best thing to do is probably to add a pre-commit hook for yourself in the appium-adb repo you work in (personally i work in one that's not inside of the appium submodules dir so i don't accidentally screw anything up). since appium-adb has no reset.sh-style script, there's no way to add the commit hook automatically the way we do with appium. but we should mention it in the contributing docs or readme for appium-adb.

all that to say, the issue you're reporting is not actually an issue. updating the title to reflect the real issue

from appium-adb.
