re. other rules expecting //:node_modules to exist, yes that's a known issue, any rules you re-use should have self-contained dependencies. Also we should let you point the node_repositories and ts_setup_workspace in your WORKSPACE file to some default value you choose, but Bazel doesn't allow for this feature, /cc @dslomov

The error above simply looks like @angular/compiler-cli isn't in your devDependencies, is it installed in your node_modules?

Didn't hear back so I'll assume you got this working or stopped caring. Open another issue if there's still a problem, please.

Sorry, I shouldn't leave issues without a response when you're trying to be helpful. This is no longer an issue as it was just my inexperience with related tooling that made the above difficult. Also, I think I've said this before, but I absolutely love Bazel + related rules and I tell everyone I meet to give it a try. :)
