Thanks for reporting this!
Issue 1 is fixed, can you please test it now?
For 2, I tried to keep the pom as light as possible so I removed some optional plugins, you will have to add them when you want to extend the application.

  3. I noticed I have a third problem: I can't export my own theme, did you know why, or know you how I can fix that?

I found a better way for that :D

And to your question, it was a clean scss file (cloned from Vaadin maven archtype)
