Resolved the issue, currently in development branch. You will be able to use -Prelease.localOnly flag for ad-hoc disabling of remote interaction or persist it as scmVersion.localOnly flag in build.gradle. Plugin will also detect if remote is attached and will fall back to local build if it's not.

Even with remote branch set there should be ability (with -P maybe also in configuration) to release a version without pushing changes to remote repository. With CD is rather not used, but I am currently playing with your plugin and before allowing it to automatically release my software I would like to test it manually and locally (when I can easily reset everything).
As a workaround I can redefine origin to a repo on my local file system, but that switch would be useful.
