Thanks for the report :-)
As far as I know, dynamic port numbers (such as the ones used by ROS) are above 49152. As long as you use a port number below this for nimbro_network you should not have collisions between ROS nodes and the network stack.
Any dynamic solution will not work well since both sender and receiver need to know the port number.

ok, this makes sense. I tried to stay "close" to the example port number 17001, and had no issue at all.
