The obvious solution, in my opinion, is to leave the Monero copyright in place. AEON, and even rebase efforts, is really just shuffling Monero code around at the end of the day.

The way contributors and their contributions have been treated in this space, is precisely what's keeping it from evolving. Offering up genuine research here would be foolish, if you can expect someone else to tack their name onto your hard work and call it a day.

That said, it's not my place. I'm not leadership here, I'm merely hoisting up a contribution of sorts. Thanks for making an issue out of this sir.

Can't follow you there.

I'll get behind keeping things fair and making sure credit's given where credit's due, but don't have any interest in telling people exactly how they should be doing it.

I'd argue it's not the name and the credit that matters, and commit history speaks for itself, for those who are worth it, for those who bother looking...but that's tangential, I digress.

@fwolfst

  1. Feel free to make a PR that pulls the license information from the readme into a customary LICENSE file
  2. The reason for two license statements is that code from Monero was merged here after the original fork. In doing so, to make absolutely certain that it was being attributed and licensed properly, the entire Monero license was copied verbatim into the bottom of the README, although it is quite similar to the existing AEON license.
  3. I don't know about the copyright-to-infinity thing. If there is something that looks off feel free to make a reasonable PR. Please don't mass-edit files without a good reason.
