Unfortunately I don't think the code as-is can work without sudo. The code relies on using memory mapped IO to access the Pi's GPIO registers directly, instead of using the Kernel/sysfs interface to GPIO (which libraries like RPI.GPIO, etc. use). The Kernel/sysfs GPIO code is convenient and easy to permission but unfortunately too slow to reliably read the DHT signal from userspace.
If someone is super knowledgeable about kernel permissions and memory mapped GPIO functions perhaps there's some magic to allow the code to run as a non-root user. For now though it needs to be run as root.
