I went through this as well, but was able to get it imported to firefox by clearing my cookies. Im not sure how Actual utilizes cookies, but since it seems to store info in the browser, you need to fiddle with it when you change info.

Steps I took to import data:

  1. Shut down actual
  2. Move my db.sqlite and metadata.json into the user-files/guid folder
  3. Start Actual, but DO NOT go to it
  4. Clear cookies for the url that it sits on (will likely sign you out of other services on other ports)
  5. Open actual, set the server domain as the current domain, and sign in
  6. Youll be prompted to download the data on the sync server to Actual, and you'll have your imported budget

I was able to recover by creating a new empty budget, then stopping the server (to release file locks). Then in Windows Explorer, I copied my backup db.sqlite and metadata.json into the folder of the new empty budget, replacing the existing files.

I restarted the server and loaded in Firefox. It loaded the empty budget. I closed the Firefox tab and opened Actual in Chrome. The backed-up budget loaded.

I think Firefox support needs some love.

Thanks for the follow up! At some point I also had to clear my cookies. Can't remember when exactly now.

Is there any way that we can do this with fly.io, which doesn't allow remote connections to volumes.
