It is certainly possible. That work has been made in pull request #58. One would need to merge the relevant changes to the main branch.

That pull request is huge, requires a good familiarity with the original code-base and based on your discussion is not realistically going to be merged any time soon. What I suggest is a minimal intrusion that can pre-date that other pull request with no negative side effects or refactoring involved. Does it make sense? If it does then how can I help to make it happen?

Thank you.

PS: I have read about SharpYaml - is it a new version to be used instead of YamlDotNet?

I completely agree in converting YamlDotNet to a portable library. I mentioned the pull request because the comments contain information that may help understanding what needs to be changed. If you want to help, I think the best approach is simply to open the solution and change the target to see what breaks, and make a list of what needs to be changed. Then, depending on the changes, you can change them yourself or, if you are not comfortable enough, report them here so that I can help you.

If the changes imply significant loss of functionality, maybe we'll decide to distribute two versions of the library in the NuGet package, one portable and the other not. But we'll decide that later.

Regarding SharpYaml, it is a fork of YamlDotNet that is based on a major refactoring of YamlDotNet, although YamlDotNet is still under active development. I won't recommend any of them because I am involved in one of them :) It is up to you to decide which library you want to use.

Thanks for clarifying! I had actually given it a very quick shot before posting the issue and it seemed fine. I will check more thoroughly and report here.

A portable version of YamlDotNet has been available in all recent builds for some time.
