@RUGRLN, first, a couple questions:
- is there an error you're seeing, if so, a traceback would be helpful
- are you trying to return just the url, or open it in the browser, or embed it?
Some possible thoughts:
- Are you sure that it's returning all the way back to where plot needs to return to? I.e., could it be something as simple as
return py.plot(my_fig, filename='Hydropathy_plot')
here:
https://github.com/RUGRLN/bioinformatics/blob/master/Hydropathy%20Plot/hydropathy_plot.py#L179 - Or, maybe you can't make this import happen within your program? This is how plots are actually opened in the browser for us:
https://github.com/plotly/python-api/blob/master/plotly/plotly/plotly.py#L194
If you can't use that, you can always just get back that url response from py.plot()
and maybe open that yourself.
Let me know if any of that is/isn't helpful and we can keep troubleshooting!

So I wasn't getting any errors because the console was disabled in the PyInstaller executable. I've enabled it now, and these are the errors I get:
http://puu.sh/b787B/160f3b1966.png
Could the issue by related to how PyInstaller works, as the path for accessing files is altered when using PyInstaller:
http://www.pyinstaller.org/export/d3398dd79b68901ae1edd761f3fe0f4ff19cfb1a/project/doc/Manual.html?format=raw#accessing-data-files
from plotly.py.
Looks like you're getting there! Not sure why, but that path at the bottom somehow got double //
, are you able to checkout why the path
variable is getting set with these double //
slashes?
I'm not all that familiar with how this path is set, but feel free to get in touch with more tracebacks, etc.

Closing as plotly.py has been largely rewritten since this was opened. Feel free to open a new issue with plotly.py version 3 if anyone is still struggling with this!
